THE 2007 CORNISH SPEED
CHAMPIONSHIP
(Yet again offering three Championships for the price of one!)
We are delighted that Combellack Vehicle Recyclers Ltd,
CROWN COPIERS LTD and Richards Bros Ltd.., who have
supported the Championship since it’s inception in 2001, have
all, yet again, agreed to continue their support into a sixth
successive year. Tregoningford, who
joined us last year have also agreed to continue their support.
Without the ongoing generosity and enthusiasm of all of our
sponsors, the Championship could not run, certainly not in its
present form.
In addition to the Main championship we are again promoting the
two subsidiary Hillclimb and Sprint Championships, each with its
own award structure. Again these Championships allow a good
choice of events with 6 and 5 scoring rounds to count
respectively.
Over 50 competitors have again registered for this year’s
Championship and we wish them all luck at this year’s hillclimb
and sprint events.
Each year we try to introduce minor changes to the Championship
, often as a result of suggestions from competitors. They are
all designed to create as level a “playing field” as possible.
Please note that 2007 sees one significant change from the
previous format, relating to changing class during the
Championship season (see below).
FAQ -these notes are included for guidance
and/or information. They do not form part of the Championship
Regulations
Can I change vehicle and/or Class part way through the
Championships?
Yes. Registered contenders are still allowed a maximum of two
changes of vehicle or class per season (Regulations para 1.4.4).
This is intended to cover occasions where a competitor changes
vehicle. It also covers other situations, including, for
example, where someone “double drives” a fellow competitor’s car
whist his own car is out of action due to mechanical breakdown
or similar. (A subsequent change back to the original
vehicle/class counts as a second change) W.e.f 2007 It is not,
however, permissible to change class in the same vehicle during
the Championship unless that vehicle can be shown to have been
permanently mechanically modified so as to render it ineligible
for the class originally nominated on registration. (see
Regulations 1.4.4)
Some Classes in the Cornish Speed Championships differ from
those in the ASWMC Championship. What happens if I am registered
in both Championships?
Most classes are identical but there are some small capacity
differences, e.g. in the Sports Libre and Racing Car classes.
(The Cornish Speed Championship classes are reviewed each year
in the light of entries in the Cornish events the previous
season and amended as appropriate). As an example, Kit Car
classes were been changed in 2006, bringing them into line with
those into the ASWMC class structure. If you are registered for
both Championships then you will receive points in both
championships calculated on the scoring system and class
structure relevant to the appropriate championship.
The Cornish Championships use a different scoring system to
that employed in the ASWMC Championship. What are the main
differences?
The Cornish Championship system is based on a “bogey time”
calculated against both the class record and class winner’s time
rather than one based on the fastest registered class contender
in the relevant championship. This means that championship
contenders are competing against all others in their class
rather than purely the other championship contenders who compete
at that event.
What is purpose of the “Bonus Point(s)” system?
Following requests from several competitors, we have abandoned
the requirement to include a score from every venue in the Main
Championship, replacing it with a minimum number of Hillclimb
(4) and Sprint (3) scores and the “bonus point” system. This
continues to reward those who fully support all events and
venues in the Championship without making this mandatory. It
does not, we believe, detract from the overriding aim of
rewarding achievement.
If I register for the Cornish Speed Championship, will I
automatically receive Regulations for all the events in the
Championship thereafter?
Yes - you should receive them. A list of registered contenders
is sent to the Secretary of the Meeting for each event for this
purpose. Bear in mind, however, that Event Regulations are
sometimes posted up to 6 weeks prior to events taking place and
the incidence of “human error”! The onus therefore rests with
the competitor to ensure that he/she obtains Regulations and
enters events within the conditions contained therein.
Why can contenders not receive more than one cash award?
Almost inevitably, the competitors who achieve top positions in
the Main Championship will also feature in leading positions in
the two subsidiary Championships. Our aim is both to spread the
prize fund as widely as possible and to encourage registration
from, and reward those, who register with the aim of only
competing in, for example, Hillclimb meetings. Notwithstanding
this, we believe that the overall winners of the Main and
subsidiary Championships should still receive the Perpetual
Trophies and any associated replica trophies.
