Tony Lawrence ...

Such sad news, on the 13th July Tony past away. His last few months seem to have been very difficult for him and his immediate family.

Tony joined the Tour of Cornwall team in about 1989 when he offered Carnon Downs Garden Centre as a venue for a control on the rally. The following year he wanted more involvement and came on board the committee as equipment officer, his enthusiasm soon saw him taking an ever-increasing role in the event, eventually becoming the stalwart for many aspects such as advertising, course car manager and eventually Clerk of the Course.

Tony's fresh enthusiasm on the Tour of Cornwall was very welcome, his commitment and was many hours of, best described as, fun that we had as we drove around the roads of Cornwall and almost every road, track or bit of airfield that we could find. I particularly remember a black Sierra Cosworth with Joan Wells in the back at Portreath and Tony laughing his head off as I was a bit heavy with the throttle pedal - at low speed of course. The Tours too were at their heyday and we had fantastic entries over some of those years. Tony took those in his stride.

After the Garden Centre was sold and he moved on to the Bowling Alley he wanted to do something different and took a back seat and Richard Cook filled the CoC void. Tony was still interested and eventually bought his own car and rallied for some years.

He had a heart problem that didn't put him off very much and was keen to show you the operation scar on his wrist. His recent move to France was unsuccessful and he returned home earlier this year and declined very quickly.

Our condolences to family and close friends.
